Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to change the size and shape of the nose. This usually involves reducing, augmenting, or changing the shape of the underlying cartilage and bones of the nose. Rhinoplasty involves making incisions on the inside, and at times, on both the inside and outside of the nose. Some patients with external nasal deformities have additional internal nasal breathing difficulties. The repair of the inside and the outside can usually be done simultaneously.

Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed as an outpatient surgical procedure. Most of the discomfort is controlled with pain medication by mouth. An oral antibiotic is also prescribed. Splints are usually placed internally and externally and are normally removed 5 to 7 days following surgery. Bruising and swelling continues to improve over a 3 to 6 month period. As a general rule, your final result will be fully appreciated approximately one year from the surgery date.
